Corporate governance and organization

  • Advisory to board of directors and executive managements, as well as shareholders, fund managers and organizations regarding all aspects of corporate governance. This is with particular reference to the Norwegian code of practice for corporate governance which Harald was strongly involved in pioneering. He is also advising companies on assessment of the composition and functioning of board of directors and executive managements.


Experience and background:


Harald established his consultancy business in 2002 with a variety of assignments which have included

Global alternative investments: 2002 – 2008 with Bear Stearns Asset Management/ Private Funds Group (since June 2008 owned by JP Morgan Chase), formerly Crane Capital Associates.

Corporate governance: Since 2002 he capitalized on previous practical experience as a director of investments at Gjensidige and made corporate governance a specialization. As secretary of a working group (subsequently the Norwegian Corporate Governance Board) he was instrumental in developing the first national Norwegian Codes of Practice for Corporate Governance. He has advised large and small companies on corporate governance issues, as well as assessment of board of directors and executive managements.

Strategy: Includes advice to financial services groups with emphasis on organisational products and outsourcing issues.


Harald has a wide expertise based on a professional career of more than 30 years at senior managerial levels in the financial sector in Norway and internationally. For 14 years he was investment director at Gjensidige.  His experience includes global fund management and investments, corporate governance, asset allocation, real estate, establishment of new banks, general banking, lending, marketing, management, retail, wholesale and manufacturing industries. In addition to Gjensidige and Gjensidige NOR (now DnB and Gjensidige respectively) his employers include Den norske Creditbank (now DnB), Banque Indosuez (now Credit Agricole) and Nordic Bank Plc. Singapore Branch. He has also a wide experience from various industries as a non-executive director.


Harald is a graduate from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (Norges Handelshøyskole – “siviløkonom” degree). He has completed a variety of courses with emphasis on finance and management in Norway and internationally (including Harvard Business School and Chase Manhattan Bank in New York).
